If you’re someone who wants to make a difference, help others, and be part of something bigger, GTCC’s Fire Academy Pathway is for you.

Through a partnership between GTCC and Guilford County Schools, this program prepares students to become certified firefighters and first responders while they are still in high school.

Through our Career and College Promise program, you’ll take college-level classes tuition-free.* You can complete your Fire Academy credential just one year after high school graduation and start serving your community right away, and debt-free!

You’ll train with professional firefighters in:

  • Fire suppression and safety
  • Rescue operations and emergency response
  • Equipment handling and teamwork under pressure

Classes include hands-on drills, simulated emergencies, and real-world experiences that prepare you to step confidently into the fire service.

GTCC’s Fire Academy instructors bring years of real-world experience to the classroom. You’ll be part of a supportive team where everyone is working toward the same goal, protecting lives and property. Also:

  • Instructors who are experienced, certified firefighters or emergency professionals
  • Comprehensive student support, including:
    •  Free tutoring via GTCC’s Center for Academic Engagement
    • Academic advising and coaches who guide each step
    • Free, confidential counseling and wellness support
  • Opportunities to connect beyond the classroom through student organizations and clubs in health sciences
  • Athletic and campus life options to help your child feel part of the GTCC community

Talk to your counselor to see what classes you’ll take,  when and where you’ll take them, and how the program fits into your high school schedule.

You’re not just building machines — you’re building your future. Make Amazing Happen at GTCC.

*The cost of books, materials, and college fees will be covered for most students.
